Today on Design Files there was a Brisbane house featured and I was particualrly enamoured by this picture of the bedroom. There are so many things I love about this picture. I love the wood panelling, the industrial side table, the contrast of the black angel poise lamp, the glass hurricane candle holder, the woven carpet. I even love the old power sockets.

Union Jack cushions
I realise I am lagging behind in the craze for British inspired homewares - it started around the royal wedding! - but I hardly ever like anything when it is in fashion anyway. I came across two union jack cushions at Redcurrent recently and I thought they might be a great starting-off point for my spare bedroom scheme (it is just a coincidence that the people who use the bedroom regularly are British). I started looking for inspiration as to how others have used the statement cushions in their interiors and came across some cool schemes.

Lounge
This picture of interior architect Sally Richardson's home was posted on Design Files today. That couch looks so unbelievably comfortable that I wish I was on it right now.

Champagne cork stool
I came across these stools in a magazine and I think they are brilliant. They are such unique pieces of furniture which would work in so many different spaces in the home. They would even be helpful to have around when you have guests and need to pull out an extra seat.

Random sightings in Auckland
I was in Auckland over the weekend catching up with a friend and took some pics of cool things I saw while I was out and about.
This was an art installation in a window near Britomart.
Chalk board paint on dressing room doors at a shop on K Road.
Lovely eclectic space on K road.
Hillarious Ryan Gosling shrine at Iko Iko (why wouldn't you have a shrine of Ryan Gosling?)
Ceiling of Auckland Museum. My friend thought it was strange that I was more interested in the design of the building than the museum displays...!
Art installation outside Auckland art gallery. Love the contrast of red against grey...I feel an inspiration for a interior design scheme coming on...
Cute pots at a old villa in Parnell.

Diptyque, New York
I came across these pictures of Diptyque’s new flagship New York store. The interior was commissioned by
Jenner Studio and the store front is glass so the 200 mirror pannels can be seem from the street. I love it that shopping is becoming as much about the experience as it is about the products we buy!

Embassy Deluxe
I went to checkout the new Embassy Deluxe last night. The Embassy Deluxe is situated below the Embassy's main auditorium and was designed by the architects Indyk. They have used tiles from the original heritage cinema to create harmony, as well as many other geometric tiles, but I thought the new area felt more Moroccan in style, whereas the rest of the embassy feels more art deco to me. I love the space they have created, and I can see myself popping down there just for a drink even if I'm not seeing a movie. I'm not so sure about the almost "alien space ship" tunnel leading down to the new bar though.
If you're down that end of Courtney Place, definitely worth taking a look.

Cool cafe in Napier
I was in Napier for the long weekend organising wedding bits and pieces and stopped off at the Photo Gallery cafe on Tennyson Street. I love the ecelectic decor they have created and their use of old painted doors as trestle tables.

Hotel Notre Dame Paris
I came across this impressive hotel when looking for accommodation for an upcoming trip to Paris. The rooms were designed Christian Lacroix. Very cool. Check it out: http://www.hotelnotredameparis.com/pages/rooms.html
